OTHER ACTIONS YOU MAY TAKE
to Encourage Canon provide Full Manual Control for Video mode (completely possible via Firmware Update, with no hardware change, no big cost to Canon at all):

-- CONTACT CANON in EUROPE:

Contact Canon and Place a Suggestion. Ask it to be Entered into their system AND Forwarded to the Product Managers at Headquarters.

List of European Professional Representatives:
http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/contact_us/representatives.do

-- WRITE A REVIEW ON CANON Website:

Telling what you think about the 5D Mark II:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17662

REMEMBER: some restrictions may apply to have your review displayed online.
One restriction is NOT TO MENTION ANOTHER BRAND NAME

-- WRITE A REVIEW on RETAILERS Websites:

This also important, because both customers, retailers and manufacturers will read them.

And some retailers share the same Review/Feedback system, so it could appear in more than one website.

Write your own review at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc.

IN ALL CASES BE RESPECTFUL, also Clear and Precise.

-- SIGN A PETITION TO CANON INC.:

You can join hundreds of people around the world who already signed for Full Manual Control and other improvements. Check it:
http://www.petitiononline.com/5dmark2/petition.html

You have nothing to loose and only takes a moment.

- CONSIDERING:

1- The camera controls Every Exposure setting automatically in Movie mode.
2- The fact that the ONLY possible way so far to get "AT LEAST" Real Aperture Control (thus REAL "Depht of Field Control") is using a Nikon lens (with aperture ring) with an adapter, OR interrupting the communication between the Canon lens and the 5D Mark II camera (wich both ways are NOT a normal method for a Canon DSLR)
3- That in its white paper, CANON'S STATEMENT of "provides amazing depth-of-field control" IS NOT REALLY TRUE because the camera sets Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO AUTOMATICALLY giving NO CHOICE for the user to Really set any of them

- ACTIONS:

MANY PEOPLE has started to contact Canon to inquiry, complain, and request a Firmware Update that allows FULL MANUAL Settings in Movie Mode, giving the chance to use it "Professionally".

Here below there are some ideas about something you can do to encourage, or push Canon to do so:

---------------------------------------
THIS SEEMS THE EASIEST WAY:

1- When discussing about this, someone told:
"Just got off the phone with a nice lady from Canon technical support. She took my request manual video control (shutter, fps, ISO, etc) and entered it into their system. She said that with enough volume of customer feedback it will be escalated to the product managers at headquarters. The best way to get yourself heard? According to her it is to call and let the rep know you want to file a suggestion:

In the USA:
For toll-free technical support, please call 1 (800) 828-4040 during regular business hours (currently Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight. EST, Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., excluding holidays).

Outside the USA:
Check your Canon web site for the appropriate phone number. "

----------------------------------
2 - ANOTHER OPTION:

1 - Everyone can send an inquiry to Canon's e-mail Support (like many already did)

Canon e-mail Support for 5D Mark II:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=17662

-Click on "Support by E-Mail", then click on "Send an E-Mail Inquiry" and then fiil the form.

2 - 24-48hs AFTER you received the answer from Canon, you WILL receive a SURVEY from Canon.

You can fill it too, telling how the assistance was, and then make a SUGGESTION and REQUEST to really give Full Manual Control in Movie Mode. (what they advertised), in your own words. Be polite, but clear. We want good results, we do NOT want to damage any support representative (who actually can not do anything about this).

PERSONALLY, I would also Request BETTER QUALITY CONTROL over the Sensors, to avoid or minimize the risk of hot pixels issue that can affect Movie Mode, and can not be "remapped" or hidden from Movie clips (in wich case you should request an exchange for a new camera to the store, or ask service assistance)

--------------------------------------
3 - MORE DRASTIC ACTION:

If Canon will not pay attention to its customers, perhaps they will pay attention to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

You can use the complaint wizard at:
https://www.FTCComplaintAssistant.gov/
and include all the information you got from the white paper and what the camera actually offers.

Check carefully what you write before sending.
