True Dat. Maybe the magnification is an embelishment of my mind. Looking through the optics Hoodman provides is just not perfect optically and the sense of looking at an image inside essentially a black tube with the supplied optics gives the eye a sense of magnification. You are probably correct.

Weird, I saw 0% magnification somewhere in their documentation and when I looked in one, I did not notice anything.

The magnification button is good until you start shooting. That is where the viewfinder loupe gets better.

They do not promote magnification but the current configuration does magnify to an extent and add the fact that you have a magnify button on the camera interface I have become very comfortable with the use of it. There are a couple of drawabacks when you are doing a steadycam run and you would want to view a monitor thus having to take it off if you do not have an external monitor. Kindve a pain really.

Hoodman would probably be around 5/10. As stated above, it provides LCD isolation from ambient light, adds a point of contact to the rig for stability but the fact that it has no magnification at all annoys me. There are a lot of people who are already shooting with the Hoodman and are happy with it. It is just that once you see what a 'real' viewfinder can do for you, it is hard to look at lower products.

Sorry for the delay. It seems like my spam filter flags some legitimate post more often that I wished...

Thanks for the link. Adding the info to the article. Still, it does not offer magnification, just isolation from ambient light.

I did find an altered version of the hoodman that allows it to be attched directly to your camera. Very solid I might add. The price is the only crux but good things usually are not cheap. Check out this site http://www.idcphotography.com/blog/

How "marginal" are the Hoodman results? If the Z-Finder is the current "10" and no view finder is a zero, where would the Hoodman fall? (Feel free to use some other scale of your own devising, of course.)
