From still to motion book: free chapter

PeachPit has a new book targeted at photographers who want to move into the video business. It is called, From Still to Motion. You can get the free chapter “Playing with the Light” here.

Judging by the content of the sample chapter, it seems to be targeted more toward the pro / serious videographer but the lighting concepts hold true what ever the gear you use, from Kino Flo lights to DIY setups.

Artbeats free clips

Art Beat is giving away a free clip every day.

Visit the link and register to get your clips because you never have enough cloud/wave/nature/etc clips. The quality is incredible and with some color correction, you can give these clips a totally different style. Best of all: they are all free!

Actually, just browsing the library is a nice source of inspiration (just wasted 12 minutes doing so)! I love the church series for example.

Tilt-Shift Miniature Effect for FCP3 filter (free!)

So you want to create a miniature effect like this :

Without having to buy one of these:

Easy! just download the (free for this week!) ShrinkRay plugin from Crumple Pop. Even if you don’t own FCP3 now, get it in case you decide to buy it later on! They also have a few other cool free FCP plugins, pay them a visit.

I prefer using this plugin to the Photoshop action filter because (1) I dont have to go into photoshop and (2) the controls are easier to manage.

Blastwave fx free sound effects

For a limited time, Blasterware fx is offering a free download of 68 high quality sound effects. There is a good variety of sounds in the back so you might want to check it out. Actually, since its free you should get it anyway, you can never have too many sounds effects!
